East Bengal FC the Hexa League Champions are all set to play in the 2016-17 AFC Cup. East Bengal FC the only Indian club to feature in the top 100 of the new club rankings announced by the Asian Football Confederation will have to play the play-off for qualifying for the main tournament.
Sources informed that East Bengal club officials had requested AFC Committee for allowing the team to play in the play-off as the team has decent record in the tournament from SAFF region. The committee had approved the Red & Gold’s request, however the team will have to play against any team from Myanmar or Malaysia or Singapore at their home ground.
Since India is ranked below the above mentioned nation in FIFA ranking hence East Bengal will have to play away match in play-off.
However, against whom East Bengal will play will be known in December when the draw will take place.
