East Bengal only Indian side in top 100 of AFC's New Club Rankings

The Red & Gold Brigade has created another history in Indian Football. They are the only Indian club to feature in the top 100 of the new club rankings announced by the Asian Football Confederation.

East Bengal are ranked 79th, while four other Indian clubs have found a place lower down in the list which comprises the top 147 clubs of the continent. East Bengal’s climb of five positions is mainly due to the performance in the 2013 AFC Cup, the semi-finals of which they reached and lost to Kuwait SC 7-2 on aggregate.

Churchill Brothers (103), Dempo (113), Pune FC (123) and Salgaocar Sports Club (134) complete the Indian entries in the new rankings.

The AFC Club Ranking, which will be updated throughout the season, is based on the results of teams participating in the last four years of the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup, as well as their respective Member Associations' overall club performances in those competitions during the same period.
