Kingfiser East Bengal FC locks horn with Mohun Bagan AC for I-league 2016-2017.
A time when the very nation is witnessing a polarisation effect among its mass, it will be Bengal that will witness a division among its very own Bongs. It's the "Boro" derby that divides Bengal, not in the name of religion but football the biggest religion of Bengal they say.
This time it's the return leg that is being hosted by bitter arch - rivals Mohun Bagan AC. Despite lagging a point behind East Bengal F.C the club hailing from the banks of the Ganges will go into the tie as favourites. With a team that is performed consistently & registered victory with a handsome margin in their last two outings against Bengaluru FC & Dhaka Abahani, Sanjoy Sen & his boys will look to surge ahead in I-league & what better way to do it against their arch-rivals. Darrel Duffy, Balwant Singh & Katsumi Yusa whose brace saw defending champions going down in Rabindra Sarovar Stadium would look to make inroads in the East Bengal FC defence which was breached 4 times in their last two matches.
Leaving aside bad run with successive defeats to Churchill Brothers FC & minnows Chennai FC, East Bengal FC will look to start afresh & reinvent their flair they displayed in Round 1 of I-League 2016-2017. Trevor James Morgan will be relieved as his midfield wizard Wedson Anselme has recovered from the injury that he picked up during his prolific performance against Bengaluru FC. The side that has tasted back to back defeats will look to bounce back & will look to prove their mettle to claim their worth for I-League 2016-2017. The line up for the Boro derby remains a mystery as TJM carried out closed-door practice, even supporters were barred from entering the ground. It is likely that we may see the return of Rahul Bheke to counter Mohun Bagan threat named Sony Norde. Amidst tension & disappointment among the fans, it is the club officials that criticised players & coach. The management too seems to be divided on their view regarding gaffer Trevor James Morgan, who has received criticism as he had benched Jackichand Singh & Romeo Fernandes in I-League 2016-2017. It sis to be seen that if the British coach changes his tactics that got battered in the last two matches. The mind games have already started between the two tacticians. Sanjoy Sen in his pre-match press conference said " no one is favourite for the Derby as both teams are well matched. No one can be termed as favourite or underdog in the derby. We will try to play well & earn three points from this tie". TJM, on the other hand, said " Mohun Bagan is playing superbly right now & will be favourites for the tie against us. I & my boys will look to win this match if we want to win the title".
Regardless of current form, Kanchejungha Stadium in Siliguri has not been a good hunting ground for Mohun Bagan AC as they have failed to beat East Bengal FC in the past. More than a battle of pride it is to be the battle for the I-League 2016-2017 title.
The game will be live on Ten 2 on 9th April from 7:00 pm.
As ardent East Bengal supporters, we would request our fellow supporters not to indulge in any fight or brawl with the rival supporters. The battle should be on the field during 90+ mins after that we all are friends.
