Payne's Brace Breaks Lajong Jinx , East Bengal Leads Table.

East Bengal seemed to be riding their champions luck, as they beat a dominating Lajong FC to break their poor record & jinx.
The match started on a bright note for the visitor's who had horrific memories from the past. Chris Payne was off the mark in the 8th minute of the match when Lajong F.C custodian error from a harmless Nikhil Pujary cross fell for Robin Singh who then passed the ball to Chris Payne making it 1-0 for the Red & Gold brigade. East Bengal after 2013 had horrific memories of this ground were atop. Lajong responded with a flurry of attacks but Dipanda Dica & Fabio squandered numerous opportunities.

Against the run of play, East Bengal Scored again with Chris Payne on the 32nd the minute, this time from a free kick it was skipper Robert who whipped a centre & Md. Rafique guided it to Chris Payne , who then on half turn smashed the ball into the net with hapless Lajong custodian Vishal Kaith looking on.

Lajong continued to press & attack the Red & Gold defence & were finally rewarded in the 63rd minute with Dipanda Dica scoring his 9th goal of the season. The Red & Gold defence looked shaky as Gurwinder Singh was unable to cope up with the pace of striker's & mark Dicka . TJM made two substituions Dika came on Nikhil Pujary & Anwar Ali returning from an injury replaced Gurwinder. Albeit these changes the Shillong outfit continued to attack & if Rupert Nongram hasn't missed a sitter in the dying seconds of the match, it could have ended all square .

A reduced team with both star players out injured 3 points came as a blessing for TJM & his boys. Kudos to Thongboi Singto & his boys who played their heart out though ending up on the losing side.
