Indian football team has been drawn with three-time champions Japan, Vietnam and Uzbekistan in Group D of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023 football tournament, which is scheduled from June 15 to July 2 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the draw on Thursday. India will open their AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023 campaign against Vietnam.
This will be India’s ninth appearance in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup, formerly known as the AFC U-16 Championship and AFC U-17 Championship. India’s best performances in the age-group tournament are quarter-final appearances in 2002 and 2018.
The four semi-finalists will earn spots in the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in Peru in November.
Group A: Thailand, Yemen, Malaysia, Laos
Group B: Korea Republic, Iran, Afghanistan, Qatar
Group C: Tajikistan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, China
Group D: Japan, India, Vietnam, Uzbekistan
