The All India Football Federation (AIFF) President, Mr. Kalyan Chaubey, on Sunday, September 25, 2022, visited Assam to hold discussions with the Assam Football Association (AFA) on development and other aspects of the game in the state.

After Mr. Chaubey was greeted warmly and felicitated by the AFA, he held an extensive meeting with senior officials of the state association on various development projects of football. In presence were AFA Secretary, Mr. Hemendranath Brahma, Vice Presidents Mr. Lakshi Boro and Mr. Shantanu Pujari, Treasurer Mr. Hiren Gogoi and other senior officials.

While talking about the meeting and his general impression on football in Assam, Mr. Chaubey referred to the final of the Chakradhar Deka Memorial Football Tournament at Mukalmua, which drew huge crowd.

“The overwhelming response of the spectators in the final only indicates the popularity the game enjoys in every nook and corner of Assam. I was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm of the spectators. Indian football should not be confined to the big cities only. Football has huge potential in rural India too. Today’s final at Mukalmua is an ample testimony of how deep rooted is the game’s popularity in the state of Assam and the country in general.”
