ATK Mohun Bagan put up a dominating performance as they defeated Kerala Blasters 4-2 in the opening game of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Friday.
For ATK Mohun Bagan, Hugo Boumous (3′, 39′), Roy Krishna (27′ P) and Liston Colaco (50′) scored the goals. For Kerala Blasters FC, Sahal Abdul Samad (24′) and Jorge Pereyra Diaz (69’) scored back two.
Hugo Boumous became the league’s fastest scorer in an opening encounter, finding the net from outside the box within three minutes.
Overall it was a dominant performance showed by ATK Mohun Bagan. They never gave Kerala Blasters chance to came back in the match. Despite leading by two goals in second half, they kept the pressure on KBFC defense. Kerala Blasters tried with counter attack, but the Mariners took the chance they got in the 50th minute and that goal probably sealed the match. Kerala Blasters did find a goal back in the 69th minute but the ATKMB defenders ensured there was no comeback for KBFC and bagged well-deserved three points.
The Club Award was won by ATK Mohun Bagan while Hugo Boumous won the Hero of the Match Award.
ATK Mohun Bagan will next play against SC East Bengal, the famous Kolkata Derby, on November 27, Saturday, while Kerala Blasters face NorthEast United on Thursday.
SC East Bengal will start their campaign against Jamshedpur FC on November 21 at Tilak Maidan Stadium.
