ATK Mohun Bagan defeated spirited NorthEast United FC 3-2 in a thrilling Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 game at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Tuesday.
Juan Ferrando got off to a winning start as ATK Mohun Bagan coach as the Kolkata side held firm and recorded their first win in four matches.
Hugo Boumous (53’, 76’) scored a brace after Liston Colaco (45’) equalised for ATK Mohun Bagan. VP Suhair gave NorthEast United the lead in the 2’, while Mashoor Shereef (87’) reduced the margin for Highlanders.
Plenty of chances were created by both the team in first half, but they lacked in the final third. ATK Mohun Bagan after the initial goal conceding, slowly got themselves organised as the match progressed and began to look more aggressive with their attacks. However, after conceding the lead, NorthEast United FC shifted their gear with more attack, but it was too late.
ATKMB now have 11 points from seven games. NEUFC remain in ninth spot with seven points from eight matches.
Liston Colaco won the Hero of the Match Award.
In the next match, Chennaiyin FC will meet Kerala Blasters FC. SC East Bengal next play against Hyderabad FC on December 23, Thursday at Athletic Stadium, Bambolim.
