Indian Football Federation (IFA) has initiated the start of Calcutta Football League 2021-22 from mid of August. Fourteen teams will participate in Premier Division A. The teams have been divided into two groups.
SC East Bengal has been clubbed with Bhowanipore Club, Southern Samity, Mohammedan Sporting Club, BSS Sporting Club, Railway FC and United Sports Club in Group 1.
ATK Mohun Bagan FC has been clubbed with Aryan Club, Tollygaunj Agragami, George Telegraph SC, Peerless SC, Kidderpore SC and Calcutta Customs Club in Group 2.
Coming to SC East Bengal, there is still uncertainty about the club’s participation in CFL this season as the club officials are yet to sign the definitive agreement. However, Shree Cement East Bengal Foundation has officially sent an email to IFA letting them know that they are keen to participate in CFL but they would be able to commit about the same only after the definitive agreement is signed by the club officials.
East Bengal has a rich history in this tournament. They had won the tournament a record 39 times. The club also holds the record for being unbeatable winners thrice, in 1972, 1977, and 2016. In 1972, East Bengal maintained a clean sheet throughout the league.
