Chennaiyin FC defeated Odisha FC 2-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Saturday.
For Chennaiyin FC, Germanpreet Singh (23’) opened the scoring with his first-ever goal in the ISL. Mirlan Murzaev (63’) made it 2-0 in the second half with a brilliant strike from distance. Javi Hernandez scored a superb goal in the injury time for Odisha FC.
Overall it was a brilliant performance by Chennaiyin FC. They did get the lead in the first half itself but Odisha FC were playing quite well at that point of time.
However, in the second half, Chennaiyin FC ruled the match. They were relentlessly on the attack and scored a stunning goal in the 63’ courtesy to Mirlan Murzaev. Odisha FC were simply outplayed after that and couldn’t stage a strong comeback. They scored a goal in added time through Javier Hernandez but it was too late.
The only stains on Chennaiyin FC was the missed penalty by Lukasz Gikiewicz at the 85’.
Slavko Damjanovic won the Hero of the Match Award.
Chennaiyin FC climbed to second place with 11 points from six games while Odisha FC dropped to fifth place with nine points from six matches.
In the next match, FC Goa will lock horn with Hyderabad FC.
