Eight-time champions China PR defeated Islamic Republic of Iran 7-0 in Group A match of AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 at Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday.
For Steel Roses, Wang Shuang (28′, 49′) and Wang Shanshan (55′, 59′) scored two goals each while Xiao Yuyi (43′) and Jiali Tang (77′) scored one goal each. Fatemeh Adeli (82′) scored an own goal.
China returned to the field with Thursday’s 4-0 win over Chinese Taipei and control the match from the very first minute against a deep-lying Iranian defence.
The Steel Roses won the AFC Women’s Asian Cup a record seven consecutive teams between 1986 and 1999, but haven’t added to their tally since lifting the 2006 title in Australia.
