East Bengal FC defeated Punjab FC 3-1 in Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.
East Bengal FC are now unbeaten in their last three away games this campaign. The Red & Gold Brigade lost the first six matches and secured 24 points from their next 15 matches. They are currently at 9th place in league standing.
This is the first time East Bengal managed to win seven matches in a single edition of ISL. In 2020-21 they won three matches, 2021-22 one, 2022-23 & 2023-24 six matches each.
With the win against Punjab FC, the Red & Gold Brigade also made league double against Punjab FC in this season. In first leg, East Bengal won by 4-2. In 2023-24 East Bengal did league double against Hyderabad FC and in 2022-23 first time completed a league double against Bengaluru FC.
Dimitrios Diamantakos in 15’, Naorem Mahesh Singh in 47’ and Lalchungnunga in 54’ scored the goals for East Bengal FC whereas, Ezequiel Vidal in 62’ pulled back one for Punjab FC.
Raphael Messi Bouli was adjudged Key Performer of the Match.
Next, East Bengal FC will face Hyderabad FC on February 26 while Punjab FC will face FC Goa on February 27.
