East Bengal FC continues their losing streak as they got defeated by Chennaiyin FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 encounter.

Playing a 4-4-2 EBFC relied on counter attacks while CFC played a 4-2-3-1 depending upon build up from the back with their usual game style of passing football.

EBFC had their chances thrice in the game in the form of counter attacks but in none of the cases the red and gold attackers were even being able to hit the target. Other than Lalchungnunga and Kamaljit the entire red and gold brigade was out of touch.

CFC got their chances from well drilled build up game and they could have scored more than once if Karikari was available for selection in place of Sliskovic. Jiteshwor, Rahim, Thapa and Duker were the standout performers for Chennaiyin. Narayan’s premature exit from the game came as a blessing in disguise for the supermachaans as Akash provided the much needed solidity as a left wing back which the former would not have been able to. Kyriacou’s faulty marking paved the way for Vafa to score the lone goal of the match.

To be fair both teams have their issues with their respective squads and as of now it seems both will finish at the bottom half of the table unless things start turning around for them miraculously.
