East Bengal FC lost to Former Hero IWL champions Sethu Madurai FC 9-0 in quarterfinals of 2023 Hero Indian Women’s League (IWL) at Shahibaug Police Stadium on Tuesday evening.

For Sethu Madurai FC, Apurna Narzary scored 6 goals (13′, 21′, 50′, 72′, 78′, 90+2′) while Kajol (55′), Priyangka (45+1′) and IVY (90+8′) scored one goal each.

Earlier, in Group A, East Bengal FC lost opening match against Gokulam Kerala FC by 8-2, defeated Kahaani FC 1-0 in the second while Mata Rukmani FC 2-0 in third, defeated Mumbai Knights FC 4-2 in fourth while played a 1-1 draw with Misaka United in fifth, lost to Sports Odisha 2-1 in sixth and defeated HOPS FC 1-0 in their last group match.

East Bengal FC finished at third place in group A with 13 points from 7 matches.

Red & Gold Brigade had already ensured their place for 2023-24 Hero Indian Women’s League by qualifying at knockout stage.
