East Bengal FC lost to Jamshedpur FC 3-2 in Eastern Regional Qualifiers of Reliance Foundation Development League 2023 at Kalyani Stadium on Monday.
This is the first loss for the Red & Gold Brigade in the tournament.
Jamshedpur FC took 2 goals lead in first half, courtesy OG by Athul in 21′ and a goal from Chawngthu in 45+2′. East Bengal equalized in next half an hour with a brace from Himanshu in 69′ and 74′. Jamshedpur FC was down to 10 men in later stage of the match, however, despite 10 men, Moirangthem gave Jamshedpur FC the lead in 76′. The Red & Gold Brigade failed to find an equalizer.
With this loss, East Bengal FC dropped to second place in the Eastern Regional Qualifiers table with 10 points from 5 matches.
Earlier, East Bengal FC defeated United SC by 1-0, Alipur Suruchi Sngha 4-1, Odisha FC 2-1 and played a goalless draw with ATK Mohun Bagan.
East Bengal FC will next play against Mohammedan SC on March 29 at Barrackpore Stadium.
