East Bengal FC lost to Mohun Bagan SG via penalty shootout in 2025 IFA Shield Final on Saturday at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata.

Hamid Ahadad gave East Bengal FC the lead in 36′. Earlier, Jason Cummings missed a penalty in 34′. Apuia equalized for Mohun Bagan SG on 45+3′.

The score remained 1-1 after extra time.

In penalty shootout Miguel, Kevin Sibille, Mahesh and Hiroshi Ibusuki scored for East Bengal while Jay Gupta’s shot was saved by Kaith. For Mohun Bagan SG, Robson, Manvir, Liston Colaco, Petratos and Mehtab all converted.

This is the 12th occasion when East Bengal finished runners-up. Earlier they finished runners-up in 1942, 1944, 1947, 1953, 1969, 1977, 1979, 1998, 2003, 2013, 2015(U19).

East Bengal FC had won the IFA Shield for a record 29 times – 1943, 1945, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1958, 1961, 1965, 1966, 1970, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2018(U19).
