Luis Machado’s Late Penalty helped NorthEast United hold Chennaiyin FC to 3-3 draw in the 98th match of Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21.
It was a wonderful game of football that everybody witnessed. Both the teams gave their best and never back down in the match. At the end it was a fair 3-3 result. Chennaiyin FC took an early lead through Lallianzuala Chhangte (8’). However NorthEast United FC came back strongly through Imran Khan (14′) and Deshorn Brown (43′) to take a lead in first half. In the Second half Manuel Lanzarote (50′) equalized for Chennaiyin FC through Penalty, while Lallianzuala Chhangte (52’) scored the second goal of the match to give Chennaiyin FC the much needed lead. When it looked like Chennaiyin FC would impose a first defeat on Khalid Jamil this season, Luis Machado scored a stoppage-time equaliser from penalty to extend their unbeaten run to seven games.
The draw means three teams Hyderabad FC, FC Goa and NorthEast United FC are tied on 27 points from 18 games, making an interesting race for the last two playoff spots.
DHL Winning Pass of the Match Award was awarded to Jakub Sylvestr. While Lallianzuala Chhangte bagged the Hero of the Match Award.
Next match will be the Kolkata Derby as ATK Mohun Bagan go up against SC East Bengal.
