FC Goa defeated Bengaluru FC 2-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 fixture at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. Bengaluru FC were pushed near the bottom place as the Gaurs handed the Blues a third consecutive defeat. This was a second consecutive victory for the Gaurs in a match that saw red card and eight yellow cards.
Ashique Kuruniyan (16’ OG) scored his second own goal of the season, gave FC Goa in an early lead before Cleiton Silva (45’) scored back with a sublime free-kick. Devendra Murgaonkar (70’) helped FC Goa regain the lead after going down to 10-men.
Sunil Chhetri’s woeful start to the season continued as he missed an open goal from 12 yards in his 100th appearance.
Bengaluru FC were the better side, created more chances and also played with a player more in most of the second half but failed to make most of all of that. On the other hand FC Goa defended extremely well and took the chance that came their way in the 70’.
Devendra Murgaonkar won the Hero of the Match Award.
Bengaluru FC will next play ATK Mohun Bagan on Thursday, While FC Goa will lock horns with Hyderabad FC on Saturday.
In the next match, SC East Bengal will face an in-form Kerala Blasters FC at the Tilak Maidan Stadium.
