Gokulam Kerala held onto their nerves and created history by becoming the first-ever side to win two successive I-League titles after their win against Mohammedan SC, here at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium on Saturday.
A narrow 2-1 victory saw Gokulam Kerala win the game and win the title with a six-point advantage, also ending Mohammedan’s seven-game unbeaten streak in the process.
Mohammedan needed a win to lift the title while Gokulam needed a draw at least to get their hands on the trophy.
All the goals came in the second half, in the span of eleven minutes. Rishad gave Gokulam Kerala the lead in 49′ while Azharuddin Mallicj equalized for Mohammedan Sporting in 57′. Emil Benny scored the winner in 61′ for the visitors.
Kerala is dominating Indian Domestic football season since 2020. Gokulam Kerala FC won IWL in 2019-20, I-League in 2020-21 & in 2021-22, Kerala Blasters FC finished Runners Up in ISL 2021-22 and in RF Development League 2021-22. Kerala won the Santosh Trophy in 2021-22.
