Laxmikant Kattimani saved three penalties as Hyderabad FC defeated Kerala Blasters FC in a nerve-racking penalty shootout by 3-1 to win the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League final at the packed PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday.
Hyderabad FC became champions for the first time, justifying Manolo Márquez’s vision of a well-rounded team with the perfect blend of youth and experience.
The two teams could not be separated in 90 minutes and in extra time as the match ended 1-1 after 120’.
Rahul KP (68’) opened the scoring for KBFC while Sahil Tavora (88’) scored a stunning goal to equalise and take the game to extra time.
For Hyderabad FC Joao Victor, Khassa Camara and Halicharan Narzary scored in shootout while Javier Siverio placed over the frame of the goal. For Kerala Blasters FC, Ayush Adhikari scored while Laxmikant Kattimani saved the penalties of Marko Leskovic, Nishu Kumar and Jeakson Singh.
Laxmikant Kattimani for his incredible performance during the penalty shootout won the Hero of the Match Award.
