Indian men’s football team has been drawn in Group B, alongside 2015 champions Australia, Uzbekistan and Syria for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 to be held in Qatar from January 12 to February 10 next year. The draw took place at the Katara Opera House in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.
India who are ranked 101 will be the lowest-ranked side in Group B. Australia ranked 29, while Uzbekistan 74 and Syria 90.
This will be India’s fifth appearance at the AFC Asian Cup. The team finished runners-up behind Israel at the 1964 edition but did not progress beyond the group stages in 1984, 2011 and 2019.
Group A: Qatar, China, Tajikistan, Lebanon
Group B: Australia, Uzbekistan, Syria and India
Group C: Iran, UAE, Hong Kong China, Palestine
Group D: Japan, Indonesia, Iraq, Vietnam
Group E: Korea Republic, Malaysia, Jordan, Bahrain
Group F: Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Kyrgyz Republic, Oman
