India go down to Bangladesh, faced first-ever loss in SAFF Women’s Championship

Five-time champions India finished second in Group A of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 after a 3-0 loss to Bangladesh at the Dasharath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Tuesday.

It was India’s first-ever loss at the SAFF Women’s Championship since the tournament began in 2010.

Bangladesh, ranked 89 in FIFA Ranking caused the major upset of the tournament by defeating 58th-ranked India.

For Bangladesh, MS Jahan Shopna netted a brace for Bangladesh, while Srimoti Sarkar scored the other goal.

India will face Nepal in the semi-finals on September 16.
