India lost to host Malaysia in semi-finals of Merdeka Cup 2023

India’s Merdeka Cup campaign comes to an end as they lost to host Malaysia 4-2 in the semi-finals at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Friday.

India dominated with 55 percent of the possession in the first half but had fewer shots at goal, however, India’s one goal was cancelled by referee in 56′.

Malaysia will now take on Tajikistan in the final to be played on October 17.

For Blue Tigers, Naorem Mahesh Singh (13’) and Sunil Chhetri (51’) scored the goals, while for Malaysia, Dion Cools (7’), Arif Aiman (20’ P), Faisal Halim (42’) and La’Vere Corbin-Ong (61’) scored.

India XI: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (GK), Nikhil Poojary (Nandhakumar Sekar 81′), Sandesh Jhingan, Mehtab Singh, Akash Mishra (Roshan Singh Naorem 62’); Mahesh Singh Naorem, Rohit Kumar (Udanta Singh 81′), Sahal Abdul Samad, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Sunil Chhetri (Liston Colaco 63′).
