NorthEast United stunned ATK Mohun Bagan in the 72nd Match of Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21 at Fatorda Stadium. The Highlanders won the game by 2-1 margin.
Both the teams played the first half cautiously with each team had one short on target. NorthEast united was concentrating on defending their area whereas ATK Mohun Bagan dominated in ball possession.
The Highlanders went ahead in 60’ through a controversial circumstances. Luis Machado scored the goal despite the linesman had his flag up. Machado went shoulder-to-shoulder with Tiri with the later went down on ground. The linesman raised his flag but the referee continued the play and allowed the goal.
The lead lasted for 12 minutes as Roy Krishna equalized for the Mariners in 72’. However, Federico Gallego made all the difference when he scored a stunning goal in 81’ to make it 2-1.
The win took NorthEast to fifth in the standings with 18 points from 13 matches. On the other hand ATK Mohun Bagan missed the chance of closing the Gap with table toppers Mumbai City FC.
DHL Winning Pass of the Match Award bagged by Rochharzela. The Hero of the Match Award won by Federico Gallego.
In the next match Kerala Blasters FC will play against Jamshedpur FC.
SC East Bengal will lock horn with FC Goa on 29th January at Fatorda Stadium.
