Goalkeeper is a position that has revolutionized most in last 20 years. Gone are those days when role of the Goalkeepers was limited to just keeping the ball out of the net. In the era of technology led modern football, Goalkeepers play an all-inclusive role including shot stopping, distribution, sweeping up, aggressive positioning. Let’s look at some facts to understand what our own De Gea, Oblak and Alissons are doing in Indian Super League.

Goals conceded per 90 minutes

This indicator reflects in every 90 minutes how many goals a goalkeeper has conceded. The less the value, better the performance. Subrata Paul is leading the chart with no goal conceded in 180 minutes of game time. Amrinder Singh playing for Mumbai CT FC is 2nd with .40 goals per 90 minutes. Debjit Majumder has conceded 2.11 goals per 90 minutes game time. Only Pawan Kumar from Jamshedpur FC (2.60) and Ravi Kumar from Odisha FC (2.57) have higher ratio than Debjit in this regard.

Saves Percentage

This is calculated by dividing the total saves made by the goalkeeper by number of shots on target faced (calculated in percentage term). Subrata Paul is again leading the chart with 100% saves percentage. Among the players having played at least 270 minutes, Amrinder Singh has the highest saves percentage (84.62) followed by Arindam Bhattacharja (83.33) and TP Rehenesh (82.35). It is only 41.67% for Debjit.

Reflex Save

This is an interesting indicator calculated by dividing the number of saves from inside the box by total number of saves made by the goalkeeper. If the number (ratio) is high it is good for the goalkeeper but not good for the defence (indicating that defence is allowing more space inside the box).  Gurmeet from North East United FC is leading here (0.83) followed by Kamaljit (0.67) and both Debajit and Rehenesh (.60 each).

Passes per minutes

Modern day Goalkeepers are expected to take part in build-up play and distribution. This indicator could help to understand how a goalkeeper has contributed in build-up play /distribution. Amrinder is leading here (.2044) followed by Gurpreet (.2027). Debajit’s score (0.0969) is way behind than the leaders.
