Kerala Blasters FC defeated 10-man Mumbai City FC 3-0 in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday.
Sahal Abdul Samad (27’), Alvaro Vazquez (47’) and Jorge Pereyra Diaz (51’, penalty) scored for Kerala Blasters FC.
The match started with both Kerala Blasters FC and Mumbai City FC playing attacking game, yet they did not let each other to dominate. The momentum got shifted to either side, yet both the teams failed to convert. However, Sahal Abdul Samad gave KBFC the lead in 27’.
MBFC started the second half in a more dominant fashion, but their attempt did not materialize. However, the worst happened when Mourtada Fall was given the marching orders after receiving the second yellow card and thus they was reduced to 10 men in 50’. Sloppy defending by Mumbai City FC helped KBFC to score two more goals and seal the match. MBFC tried hard, but failed to create real threat in KBFC box.
Alvaro Vazquez won the Hero of the Match Award.
The win took KBFC to fifth in the points table with nine points from six games. Mumbai City FC remained top but the result means Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC and Chennaiyin FC can now close the gap on the reigning champions.
In the next match, Jamshedpur FC will lock horn with Bengaluru FC. SC East Bengal next play against Hyderabad FC on December 23, Thursday at Athletic Stadium, Bambolim.
