Manisha Kalyan is set to become the first Indian to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League after the 20-year-old forward signed a two-year deal with Cypriot club Apollon Ladies. She is the fourth Indian female footballer to get a professional contract with a foreign club.
Apollon Ladies will take on Latvia’s Rigas FS in a two-legged semifinal qualifying round on August 18 and 21. If they beat Rigas, they will have to face one of FC Zurich or Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag to progress into the group stage of the competition.
Manisha, won two Indian Women’s League titles (2019-20, 21-22) with Gokulam Kerala, in the 2019-20 season She was named the emerging player of the tournament.
She made her senior team debut against Hong Kong in January 2019. She played 17 matches and scored 4 goals for India. Back in November last year, she scored India’s first ever historic goal against 2007 World Cup runners-up Brazil.
