Indian Women’s football team put up a determined performance before losing to Brazil 6-1 in the opening match of the four-nation tournament at Arena da Amazonia in Manaus on Friday.
Manisha Kalyan was the goal-scorer for India, while for host Brazil, Borges Ariadina scored a brace and Oliveira Debinha, Costa Giovana, Ferraz Keroline and Ferreira Geyse scored a goal each.
The historic moment for Indian football was when Manisha Kalyan scored the equalizer for India in 8’ of the match. She received a ball in her own half, run down the left flank and blast a goal down the far corner.
This was the first time an Indian football team, male or female, faced Brazil in an international competition.
The match also marked the end of Brazilian legend Formiga’s stellar career who played seven consecutive women’s World Cups and seven Olympic Games.
India will next face Chile on November 29.
