Mumbai City defeated Chennaiyin FC 1-0 to consolidate their lead at the top of the -table and end Chennaiyin FC’s unbeaten run in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Wednesday.
Rahul Bheke scored the winner in the 86th minute from a free kick.
It was a match that saw two contrasting styles of play with Mumbai City FC’s attacking play measured against Chennaiyin FC’s strong defence.
For most parts of the game, CFC’s strategy of having at least five men behind to be working as MCFC struggled to break through to pose any serious threat.
Mumbai City FC now have 15 points from six matches. Chennaiyin FC, meanwhile, dropped to fifth in the ISL points table with eight points from five matches.
Rahul Bheke won Hero of the Match Award.
On Thursday, the 16th of December, Bengaluru FC will meet ATK Mohun Bagan. Meanwhile, SC East Bengal will next face NorthEast United FC on Friday.
