Portugal defeated Switzerland 6-1 in Round of 16 Match of 2022 FIFA World Cup at Lusail Stadium in Qatar to set a quarterfinal clash with Morocco. The Portuguese have made it to the last eight for the first time since 2006.

For Portugal, Goncalo Ramos scored a hat trick (16, 50′ 66′) while Pepe scored in 32′, Raphael Guerreiro scored in 54′ and Rafael Leão scored in 91′. For Switzerland, Manuel Akanji pulled one back in 57′.

Cristiano Ronaldo who played as substitute and came on to field in 73′ scored a goal in 83′ but was ruled offside.

Goncalo Ramos hat-trick took him past Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the tournament knockout goals.

Ramos also became the first player to score a hat-trick in his first start in a FIFA World Cup game since German’s Miroslav Klose in 2002. This was the first knockout stage hat-trick since Tomas Skuhravy’s (Czech Republic) against Costa Rica in 1990.

Pepe surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo to become the second-oldest player to score a goal in FIFA World Cup.
