Real Madrid secured a record-extending 14th European Cup as they defeated Liverpool 1-0 in a Champions League final at Stade de France on Saturday.
Vinicius Junior scored the only goal of the match in 59′ while Thibaut Courtois made several fine saves to deny Liverpool to equalize.
Real Madrid now have won the UEFA Champions League 14 times, making them the most successful team in the UCL. Italian club AC Milan are next with seven. German team Bayern Munich and England’s Liverpool have won six times each.
Real’s domestic rivals Barcelona, meanwhile, have five wins to their name. Ajax (4), Manchester United (3), Inter Milan (3), Juventus (2), Benfica (2), Nottingham Forest (2), Porto (2) and Chelsea (2) are the other multi-time UCL champions.
Over the years, there have been 22 different UCL champions.
Until Saturday Cristiano Ronaldo was the only player in Champions League history to have won the tournament five times. Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Casemiro, Dani Carvajal, Isco, Toni Kroos, Marcelo and Luka Modric all equaled Ronado’s record as they were part of Real’s UCL-winning squad.
Real Madrid Coach, Carlo Ancelotti became the most successful manager in UCL history. He became the only manager to win UCL four times, twice each with AC Milan (2002-03, 2006-07) and Real Madrid (2013-14, 2021-22).
