SC East Bengal played a goalless draw with Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco on Friday.
SC East Bengal made a few changes after their defeat against Odisha. Daniel Chima Chukwu and Amarjit Singh Kiyam were handed their first starts.
Suvam Sen, still filling in for the injured Arindam Bhattacharja, kept Red & Gold Brigade in the game with some brilliant saves.
Chennaiyin FC missed a lot of chances as strong and disciplined defense of Red & Gold Brigade denied their third win on a trot.
SC East Bengal also had a few opportunities but they failed to convert. In 75′ Raju Gaikwad’s header from close missed the target and then Mohammed Rafique could not score from inside the six-yard box.
Chennaiyin FC now sit on top of the ISL table with seven points. SC East Bengal after back-to-back heavy defeats found some relief, placed 9th with two points.
Hira Mondal was chosen for the Hero of the Match Award. SC East Bengal will next play against FC Goa on December 7, Tuesday at Tilak Maidan Stadium.
On Saturday, NorthEast United FC will face FC Goa followed by Bengaluru FC against Mumbai City FC.
