The tussle between investors Shree Cement and Club Officials brought uncertainty on the future of SC East Bengal’s football. Shree Cement wanted the signing of final agreement which is pending since last season. On the other hand, the executive committee of East Bengal met for an emergency meeting where they decided in favour of not signing the final agreement, terming it ‘disrespectful’.
East Bengal fans across the world wanted their favourite club to play in Indian Super League, but fans are getting anxious as time is running out for SC East Bengal.
Hence, the Red & Gold fans organized a peaceful protest against the club officials on 21st July, Wednesday afternoon. East Bengal fans were denied to get in front of the club gate by the officials’ hired muscles, hence they staged a massive protest at the Leslie Claudisstreet. The protest was happening in a peaceful manner, however, the club officials’ hired muscles started creating problem and Police started lathi charging brutally on East Bengal fans.
The attack was vehemently condemned by many prominent sports persons including Mr Phillipe de Rider, former East Bengal coach, AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das and Mr. Saji Prabhakaran former FIFA South Asia Development Officer.
Various fan clubs of Indian football have stood in solidarity with the East Bengal fans.
Now the ex-players of East Bengal Club had a meeting with club officials. They all wanted SC East Bengal should play Indian Super League. Moreover they decided to approach Chief Minister so that the dispute gets resolved and Red & Gold Club can concentrate on football. Â
