Wasteful chances from East Bengal forward line denied them a win in Durand Cup Group B Match at Kishore Bharati Stadium here on Thursday. Rajasthan United, which came as a big surprise in its first outing by beating ATK Mohun Bagan 3-2, put out another spirited show to force a draw against East Bengal FC.
East Bengal FC had more chances in the game and possession, however Rajasthan United FC missed a penalty in the second-half.
In the opening 30 minutes East Bengal had three chances, but the Rajasthan United goalkeeper Niraj Kumar twice and the crosspiece saved the efforts.
V.P. Suhair, Sumeet Passi, Amarjit Kiyam and Brazilian Alex Lima continued to mess with the opportunities coming their way.
However, the golden chance to score came Rajasthan United FC’s way in the 61′, when Lalremsanga was brought down inside the box by Souvik and referee Crystal John had no hesitation pointing to spot. The effort from Barboza Junior was weak and Kamaljit saved easily.
With this draw, Rajasthan United FC got level on points with Mumbai City FC, have four points each, while East Bengal, which played its second consecutive goalless draw, remained third with two points.
