Tunisia claimed a famous victory in Group D match of 2022 FIFA World Cup at Education City Stadium on Wednesday in Doha, Qatar, over a French team made up mostly of back-up players, but its 1-0 win over the reigning champion was not enough for to progress to the World Cup knockout stages. Tunisia is the first team to beat France in a World Cup game since Germany in the 2014 quarter-final.
Tunisia finished third in the group with four points as Australia beat Denmark 1-0 in the other group match to finish second with six points and qualify for the round of 16. Tunisia thus failed to progress from the group stage in six World Cup appearances.
Wahbi Khazri scored the only goal of the match in 58′.
Antoinne Griezmann scored in 90+8′, but a VAR check saw the Frenchman in an offside position and the goal was ruled out.
