The SAFF Championship 2023 will be hosted in Bengaluru from June 21 to July 3, 2023, All India Football Federation President Mr. Kalyan Chaubey announced on Sunday.
AIFF Secretary General Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran was present on the occasion, along with AIFF Vice President and Karnataka State Football Association President Mr. NA Haris and Karnataka Olympic Association President Dr. K Govindaraj.
This will be the 14th edition of the tournament and India will host for fourth time. Earlier, India hosted in 1999, 2011 & in 2015.
India have won the tournament 8 times (1993, 1997, 1999, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2021) while finished Runner-up 4 times (1995, 2008, 2013, 2018). Only in 2003, India failed to make final and finished third.
Maldives have won twice in 2008 & 2018, while Bangladesh (2003), Afghanistan (2013) and Sri Lanka (1995) won once each.
