On 6th October 1993, East Bengal faced Al Zawraa of Iraq in home match of Asian Cup Winners Cup. At that time Al Zawraa was the Champion of Iraq FA Cup and they had many national players in their team. However, in the first round match East Bengal thrashed Al Zawraa by 6-2. This was one of the greatest win for East Bengal against foreign teams. Carlton Chapman scored 3 goals, Akil Ansari, Sisir Ghosh and Kumaresh Bhawal scored one goal each for East Bengal.
