East Bengal FC held to 2-2 draw by Al-Hussein in Group D of AFC Champions League Two 2026-27 at the Amman International Stadium on Wednesday.
The Red & Gold started brightly and took control of the contest early. Dani RamÃrez opened the scoring in the 9′ before Anwar Ali doubled East Bengal’s advantage in the 40′, giving the visitors a commanding 2–0 lead at half-time.
Al-Hussein fought back after the break, with Mahmoud Al-Mardi pulling one goal back in the 61′. The hosts continued to push for an equaliser and eventually found it through Ahmad Assaf in the 87′.
Despite surrendering a two-goal advantage, East Bengal FC secured a valuable point away from home and created a significant piece of Indian club football history. They became the first Indian side to earn a point in the AFC Champions League Two since the rebranding of the AFC club competitions. East Bengal also became the first Indian club to score more than once in a single ACL Two group-stage match.
A 2–2 draw on foreign soil is certainly a result to acknowledge, but for East Bengal, it represents more than just a point. The Red & Gold have always carried an ambition to compete at the highest level and challenge for victory wherever they play.
A point earned in Amman. History created. But the hunger for more remains.
That is the Red & Gold standard when representing India on the continental stage.
