In 1984 IFA Shield semifinal East Bengal defeated Bangkok Bank by 1-0. On 25th September the semifinal match was played. The winning goal was scored by Biswajit Bhattacharya. This was one of the memorable win for Red & Gold Brigade against Foreign clubs. East Bengal went on to win the IFA Shield in that edition by defeating Arch Rivals Mohun Bagan by 1-0 in final.
