Recap

NorthEast United FC continued their giant-killing run under new coach Khalid Jamil as they defeated Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the 76th match of Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21 at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim.

The Highlanders are the only team to beat Mumbai City FC twice in this season. Two goals by Deshorn Brown in the first 9 minutes of the game put them in a solid lead. Substitute Adam le Fondre struck a late goal for Mumbai City FC, but it was not enough for them to break FC Goa’s 12-game unbeaten run. Mumbai City controlled possession but only hit its pace in attack. In the second half, Mumbai brought on assistances in the form of forward le Fondre and winger Cy Goddard. But still could not avoid the defeat.

The win saw NorthEast United FC rise to fourth on the points table with 21 points from 14 matches. This is their third successive victory, having beaten Jamshedpur FC and ATK Mohun Bagan previously. On the other hand the lost means Mumbai City’s 12-game unbeaten streak comes to an end. DHL Winning Pass of the Match Award was bagged by NimDorjee.

The Hero of the Match Award won by Deshorn Brown for his two goals.

Next Hyderabad FC will take on Chennaiyin FC in the first game. The second encounter on Super Sunday will be in between ATK Mohun Bagan and Kerala Blasters FC.
