India defeated Chinese Taipei 3-1 in final Group C match of the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026 at the Pathum Thani Stadium in Pathum Thani on Wednesday.
For Young Tigresses, Sibani Devi Nongmeikapam (32’, 87’ p) scored a brace while Bhumika Devi Khumukcham (26’) scored the other goal. Kao Hsin (90+3’) pulled one back for Chinese Taipei.
This was India’s first win in the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup since 2004, and a first women’s Asian Cup victory at any level since 2005.
With the result, India finished Group C in third place with three points from as many games, but it wasn’t enough to qualify for the knockout stage as one of the two best third-placed teams among all groups. India missed out on the quarter-finals due to a goal difference (-9) inferior to Vietnam (-5) and Uzbekistan (-4).
