India suffer a shock 2-1 defeat against Afghanistan at Guwahati in the third round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualifiers.
Blue Tiger’s skipper Sunil Chhetri gave India the lead on his 150th International Match in 38′ through penalty. This was Sunil Chhetri’s 94th international goal.
Rahmat Akbari in 70’ equalized for Afghanistan and Mukhammad in 88’ gave the lead through penalty.
India now have just four points from four matches in the four-team Round 2 group. While Qatar lead the group with nine points from three matches, Afghanistan, too, have four points from as many matches.
India will next face Qatar and Kuwait.
