Nostalgia is the mere highlight of a celebration when East Bengal Fans embrace one of the most cherished moments in Indian Football History – 1975, 30th September, IFA Shield Final at Mohun Bagan Ground — East Bengal 5-0 Mohun Bagan. There are many memorable moments in Kolkata Derby, but this one is the eventful one which people speak over decades. Every year Red & Gold Fans across the world celebrate this day in a grand way.

This is the biggest margin of win and gives Red & Gold fan the proud moments over the Green & Maroon fans. This victory is considered the peak of East Bengal’s reign in the 70s – from 1970 to 1975 – where they claimed six consecutive Calcutta Football League titles before creating the record margin of win in the Shield final.

Surajit Sengupta, Shyam Thapa, Ranjit Mukherjee, Shyam Thapa, Subhankar Sanyal scored the goals.

The game became so shocking that an East Bengal fan allegedly suffered a heart attack due to sheer happiness. On another hand, a Mohun Bagan fan couldn’t bear the humiliation and committed suicide, leaving the note saying, “By becoming a better Mohun Bagan footballer, I wish to take revenge of this defeat in my next birth.”
