Morocco defeated Canada 2-1 in Group F match to qualify for Round of 16 in 2022 FIFA World Cup at the Al Thumama Stadium on Thursday. This is the second time that Morocco has qualified to the knockouts since 1986, where it lost to West Germany in the Round of 16.
Hakim Ziyech scored in 4′, second fasted goal this edition, to provide an early lead to the African nation. Youssef El Nesyri doubled the lead with a powerful shot inside the penalty box in 23′.
Canada pulled one back courtesy of an own goal from Nayef Aguerd in 40′.
With seven points from two wins and a draw, Morocco became the first African nation to top its group in World Cups since 1998.
