East Bengal FC continued their impressive run in Asian football as the Moshal Girls defeated Malaysia’s Sabah FC 2-0 at the Likas Stadium on Sunday to secure qualification for the AFC Women’s Champions League (AWCL) 2026-27 group stage.

After a dominant start to the preliminary stage, East Bengal completed the round with a perfect record. Olivia Anokye and Soumya Guguloth found the net in the second half to seal another convincing victory for the Indian club.

The Moshal Girls had earlier opened their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Rajshahi Stars FC before producing a historic 12-0 demolition of Rovers FC of Guam. Their three wins ensured East Bengal finished the preliminary stage with maximum points and without conceding a goal.

With this achievement, East Bengal FC will feature in the AWCL group stage for the second consecutive season, further strengthening their position among Asia’s emerging women’s football clubs.

In the previous edition, East Bengal defeated Phnom Penh Crown of Cambodia and played out a draw against Hong Kong’s Kitchee in the preliminary stage. They subsequently recorded a victory over Iran’s Bam Khatoon in the group stage, while suffering defeats against Wuhan Jiangda of China and Nasaf of Uzbekistan.

The latest qualification marks another significant milestone for East Bengal Women, who will now look to make an even deeper impact in the upcoming group stage.
