In the year 1978 at Bordoloi Trophy East Bengal met Bangkok Port Authority. In the final on 5th September the Red & Gold Brigade defeated Thai team by 4-2. For East Bengal Mihir Bose and Surajit Sengupta scored two goals each. This was the 4th Bordoloi Trophy for East Bengal and second time winning against foreign club in this tournament. Earlier in 1972 East Bengal defeated Dhaka Xi in final.
