In 1972 IFA Shield Semifinal, East Bengal met with yet another foreign Club. This time East Bengal’s opponent was Selengar of Malaysia. On 12th September, 1972, East Bengal defeated Selengar by 2-0 and qualified for the finals. Both the goals were scored by Sambhu Maitra. East Bengal went on to win the title for 10th time after defeating Mohun Bagan in final.
