India’s U20 men’s team began their AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers campaign with a 1-0 victory over Syria at the Do’stlik Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Shami Singamayum emerged as the hero, scoring the decisive goal in the 86th minute to seal all three points for the Blue Colts.
Syria created sustained pressure throughout the match, but India’s defence stood firm. The team, coached by Mahesh Gawali, showed excellent discipline and organisation to register another clean sheet.
It was India’s fifth consecutive clean sheet, following four shutouts in their pre-qualifier friendly matches.
The Blue Colts will now turn their attention to their next Group B match against Uzbekistan on September 3.
