The Indian senior men’s national football team will face another major test on home soil when they take on two-time FIFA World Cup champions Uruguay in an international friendly at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium), Kolkata, on October 6, 2026.
The fixture will add another high-profile opponent to India’s packed international schedule and will be the third major friendly of the FIFA International Match Window.
India’s demanding run will begin with a clash against Panama in Bengaluru on September 26, before the Blue Tigers return to Kolkata to face five-time world champions Brazil on October 3. Just three days later, India will meet Uruguay at the same venue.
Uruguay, one of the most historic and decorated teams in world football, have won the FIFA World Cup twice, lifting the trophy in 1930 and 1950. The South American side are currently ranked 20th in the FIFA World Ranking, making the Kolkata encounter another formidable challenge for the Indian team.
The match will also have an interesting Indian football connection through Uruguay head coach Diego Forlán. The former Uruguayan international and FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner played in the Indian Super League for Mumbai City FC in 2016.
For India, the three-match sequence against Panama, Brazil and Uruguay will provide an invaluable opportunity to compete against teams from different footballing backgrounds and test the squad at a high international level.
With the Brazil and Uruguay fixtures both scheduled in Kolkata, Indian football supporters are set for a memorable period of international football at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
