Former India international Mehrajuddin Wadoo has been appointed as the new head coach of the India U17 men’s national football team by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The 42-year-old coach has assumed charge as the Blue Colts began their preparatory camp in Margao, Goa, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The ongoing camp is currently being conducted in a trial phase as India begin their preparations for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2027 Qualifiers.
India have been placed in Group E of the qualifiers, with the tournament scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 11 to 20. The Blue Colts will face Malaysia, Palestine, Singapore and Guam in the group stage.
Wadoo, who holds an AFC Pro Licence, brings a blend of international playing experience and coaching expertise to the role. He most recently served as the head coach of Mohammedan Sporting Club, while his previous coaching assignments include Real Kashmir FC and Sudeva Delhi FC.
During his playing career, Wadoo represented the Indian senior national team and was part of several memorable campaigns. He was a member of the India squad that lifted the AFC Challenge Cup in 2008 and subsequently featured at the AFC Asian Cup in 2011.
His international honours also include the SAFF Championship in 2005 and the Nehru Cup in 2007 and 2009. At club level, Wadoo was part of the Chennaiyin FC squad that won the Indian Super League title in 2015.
With the AFC U17 Asian Cup qualifiers now approaching, Wadoo’s immediate task will be to identify and develop a strong group of young players capable of competing against a challenging group of opponents in Malaysia.
The appointment marks a new chapter for the Blue Colts as they look to build momentum and secure qualification for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027.
